Waiting for a Mate

Waiting for a Mate is made and run by Tony Gorgioski in Australia. This page says what the game knows about you, why, where it goes and how to make it forget. The short version: you can play level one without telling us anything; if you sign in, Clerk holds your account; if you pay, Stripe holds the payment; and the analytics count visits without cookies.

Playing without an account

Nothing that identifies you. Three things happen in the background:

  • Your browser remembers your settings and progress (quality, sound, volume, which levels you have finished) in its own local storage. That never leaves your device.
  • Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count page views and measure load times without cookies, using an identifier derived from your connection that changes every day and is never stored in a form that points back to you.
  • Vercel, which hosts the site, keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, browser, page) for a short time.

With an account

Levels after the first need an account. Accounts are held by Clerk, our sign-in provider, on our behalf: your email address, your name if you give one, how you sign in, and the session cookies that keep you signed in. On your account we also keep a few hundred bytes of game data: your settings (look sensitivity, quality, orientation), the levels you have completed, and whether you have unlocked the paid levels, with the receipt id from Stripe.

Paying

The one-off unlock is paid through Stripe, on Stripe's own checkout page. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us. We receive whether the payment succeeded, the email address you gave Stripe, and a receipt id. Stripe handles payment data under its own privacy policy.

Who else sees it

Clerk, Stripe and Vercel process data to provide those services, and may store it in the United States. There is no advertising on the site, no data is sold or shared for marketing, and there are no third-party trackers.

How long we keep it

  • Account and game data: until you delete your account.
  • Payment records: as long as Stripe and tax law require.
  • Analytics: as daily totals only, indefinitely.
  • Server logs: briefly, by Vercel.

Your choices

  • Delete your account any time from the account menu (Manage account → Delete account). That removes your account and game data from Clerk.
  • Clear your browser's site data to forget local settings and progress.
  • Email hello@waitingforam8.com to see, correct or delete what we hold, or to ask anything about this page.

Children

The game isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their details.

The law

We follow the Australian Privacy Principles as a guide even where a small project isn't strictly required to. If we can't resolve a complaint between us, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything material gets a line on the home page too.
